Do Everything Regret Nothing…. (Law of Attraction)

One day I was talking to one of my dear friends telling her I need to go back to work.  After 14 years of being a Mom I told her I had no clue what I wanted to do.  She said to me if you could do anything you wanted what would it be?   I didn’t even have to think I just blurted out I would love to work with an event planner.  She said “go and get it!”.  I looked at her and said “Yeh right I am going to find a job doing that, that is a dream job”.

A few weeks later I was playing bunco with some friends.  One of the ladies there said they were looking for a “Princess” to come to her daughter’s birthday party.  Everyone looked at me and said if there is anyone that can make that happen it would be you.  For reasons I can’t explain I made it my mission to find a princess costume.  I knew if I could find the costume, one of my kids from the theatre could play the part.

I walked into this place that I thought could have costumes.  When I walked in it was part store and part work area.  In the work area they were making the coolest things I had ever seen.  This lady came up to me and said can I help you and I explained what I was looking for.  She told me she no longer had costumes and I thanked her and walked toward the door.

As I got to the door I thought about the question my girlfriend had asked me just a few short weeks earlier.  I literally walked backwards, looked at the woman (who I did not know at the time was the owner) and said “if you ever need any help part-time or full time I would love to work here”.  With that she showed me photos of what they do.  I was literally foaming at the mouth, I said “I have to work here!”

She then said to me “you are not going to believe this but I was literally just putting an ad in the paper as one of my workers is moving in a few months.”    I am not 100% sure what I said next,  and I am shocked she did not think I was a “nut job” but to my surprise what I do remember is she said “you need to calm down and go home and email me your resume.  Then we will meet again to for another interview.

I immediately called my husband and told him I just landed my “Dream Job!   He said “they hired you just like that?”  I said “No I have to send them my resume and have another interview.”  He said “so you don’t have a job yet?”  I said “I will!”.

I got home sent my resume and within an hour got an email back that said you can start tomorrow.  I honestly did not even care what the pay was I was going to be working for an event planner!

That was my first job after not working 14 years and I was beyond thrilled…

I have always believed in the Law of Attraction and as you continue to read my blogs you will see how that has played into my life a lot.

I would love to hear if you have any Law of Attraction stories….

Do Everything Regret Nothing…

As I was getting ready to write my post for today, I first checked email.  I recently joined Bloggy Moms as I am a “newbie” in the blogging world.  They have made me feel so welcome with the invitations to join groups and links to learn more about them and their journeys.   I was not sure how to start my blog but www.inmamascloset.blogspot.com pulled it all together for me when she sent me an email and invited me to stop by.  So without further adieu I will start…

Had I stayed in corporate all those years ago, working for an amazing microscope company, I probably would not be in the situation I have been in for the last 5 years.   I loved working in corporate, for most of the 11 years I was there I was usually balancing two jobs at one time.  No matter how many times I grew in the company my boss was CFO and he insisted I continue to do accounts payable with whatever position I was in.  I had benefits, a paycheck, vacation time, 401K and most important security!    However at home I had an adorable 3 year old daughter that was growing and changing all the time and I just wanted to be a stay at home Mom.  So I quit corporate and never looked back, that was until 5 years ago.

My husband and I had a successful business, we made underwear for the military and for 14 years it gave us quite an amazing life and made my dream of being a stay at home Mom a reality.   I loved every minute of staying home, and I know the relationship I have with my daughter today comes from the fact that I was home with her.   We had quite the journey together which I will share in another blog post.

Now it is 2007 and the administration in DC is changing and they longer feel the military needs protective underwear.  With one simple email the company that we created and had for 14 years was over.  Just like that we lost our business!!!  My husband had never interviewed for a job (he had been the family textile business) and I just had a part-time job in event planning.

You think you have saved for a rainy day, well let me tell you in a blink of an eye you realize you are in trouble.  Paying the bills is all you have on your mind and your creditors are the people you spend most of your day talking to.   You look at your partner and wondered if he hit his head at some point because you cannot believe the way he is handling the whole situation.

LOL this post does not really reflect my title (however it is so positive) so I will make this Part 1 and tomorrow I will post Part 2, which will.  Keep in mind I am a newbie and this is all a learning process but so cathartic.

Thanks for listening….

If You Have a Little Princess You Have to Check this Website Out

As I mentioned I have been a Production Mgr for many years.  Part of that job consists of finding the most incredible things you could think of with no budget.  I always say I have a director who I think lays awake at night thinking of the craziest things to have me find just to see if I can do it.   Up until now I have to say I have not let her down. 🙂  If I can’t find it then I know I have to figure out a way to make it.

Recently we did a “Little Princess” concert style.  Not sure if any of you remember this,  originally the actress who played the lead was Shirley Temple.  Once again my director asked me to find a doll that looked like the one Shirley Temple had in the movie.

In my google searching I came across this amazing website called Downtown Darlings located in Wilmington NC (which happens to be minutes from where my favorite niece lives).    The owner Marcia could not have been nicer and I enjoyed hearing her story about how she started her business.  We found a perfect doll for the show but unfortunately since opening night was a week away we realized it would not get to me in time.  However I loved what she had created in such a short time so much that I said if my daughter winds up going to college down there can I have a job?   Can’t remember her exact words but I know it ended in Yes.

I told everyone that had little ones about this website because even though it is in NC,  the way she did her site you feel like you are in the store.  It has some of the most unique and cute items I have ever seen.  Oh if only my 17 year old was little again…  I hope you all enjoy it.    www.downtowndarlings.net

Would love to hear your feedback, or if you live in Wilmington and have been there.

HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!!!

Saying Goodbye to 2012 and Hello to 2013!

The New Year is going to bring many huge milestones to my life.  My one and only daughter will  be graduating from High School.  She will then be leaving for college in the Fall.  She has changed her mind so many times I am honestly not sure where she is going to end up.  Time will tell, could be Nashville, South Carolina or today she said NYC.  I am hoping to sell my home that I have lived in 14 years and downsize.  I want to move back to Newtown where we lived for many years before we moved to where we are now.

I hope to find a new full-time job where after they hire you they don’t add   “we will re-evaluate you in 90 days”!  Then when the 90 days comes they say “we love you – you are great lets give it another 60 days”!  Talk about stress…  Back in my day when someone hired you, whether it was on the second or third interview that was it.  You of course had to wait 3 months for benefits but you were hired – done deal and unless you did something truly horrible and got fired you were secure.   I know I have been out of the job market for over 14 years but can anyone please tell me is this the way it is now??  I would love to hear your job experiences.

I also hope to become a part of an amazing new theatre, bringing new and exciting family entertainment to our community. I am keeping my fingers crossed on that one.  As I find out more that is one of the things I will be sharing in my blog.

I also hope to grow Kids You Got Mail bringing smiles to children one puzzle at a time with some good old-fashioned fun!!  (no computers needed) 🙂

Well that was not as hard as I thought it would be.  I think I am going to like blogging!  🙂

I want to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy and Prosperous 2013!

Maureen

Welcome to my blog

Welcome to my little blog corner.  I am a Mom to a sweetheart of a 17 year old daughter.  I have been married for over 25 years (cannot believe that) and we have known each other for over 31 years.  As my only daughter is applying to colleges and embracing her last year in High School I decided it was time for me to start blogging.  I am hoping to find some Mom’s out there who are also going through this senior year/college application process.  Computers are not my forte but I am going to give it my best shot!
